Are We Really Called to Love Our Enemies?

Jesus said, "Love your enemies, do good to those who hate you, bless those who curse you, pray for those who mistreat you." (Luke 6:27-28)

This is a difficult command to follow, especially when we have been hurt or wronged by someone. But Jesus is clear that we are called to love everyone, even our enemies.

So, what does it mean to love our enemies?

It doesn't mean that we have to agree with them or approve of their behavior. It doesn't mean that we have to forget what they have done to us. But it does mean that we should treat them with kindness and compassion.

Here are some ways to love our enemies:

• Pray for them. Ask God to bless them and to change their hearts.
• Do good to them. This could be something as simple as holding the door open for them or giving them a compliment.
• Turn the other cheek. If they hurt us, don't retaliate. Instead, forgive them and show them love.
• Be merciful. Remember that God is merciful to us, even when we don't deserve it. Let that mercy flow through us to others.

Loving our enemies is not easy. But it is possible, with the help of God. When we love our enemies, we are following the example of Jesus and we are showing the world the love of God.

1. Think of someone who you consider to be an enemy.
2. Read Luke 6:27-35.
3. Ask God to help you to love this person.
4. Start by praying for them.

Loving our enemies is not easy, but it is possible. And it is a powerful way to show the world the love of God.
