Baptism at Christ Greenfield

Baptism is God's Tangible Grace for You

Baptism begins our new life as a child of God and is a gift of grace from God; therefore here at Christ Greenfield, we baptize people of all nations and ages from infant to adults.

What is Baptism?

A work of God's grace: Baptism at its core is a work of God. It was created, instituted, and initiated by God for our good. Baptism is a means of grace, a vehicle through which God delivers His grace to us. Baptism is a Sacrament—something instituted by God, which includes a physical element and a promise of God, which gives grace.

Matthew 28: 19 (ESV)

"Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit…"

How does Baptism Save?

Baptism saves because in it we receive forgiveness and the gift of the Holy Spirit.
Acts 2:38-39 (ESV)
"Repent and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins, and you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit. For the promise is for you and for your children and for all who are far off, everyone whom the Lord our God calls to himself."
Baptism also gives us a clean conscience towards God.
1 Peter 3:21 (ESV)
"Baptism, which corresponds to this, now saves you, not as a removal of dirt from the body but as an appeal to God for a good conscience, through the resurrection of Jesus Christ…"
Baptism unites us to Jesus Christ, His death on the cross, and His resurrection, securing salvation and everlasting life for us.
Romans 6:1-5 (ESV)
"What shall we say then? Are we to continue in sin that grace may abound? By no means! How can we who died to sin still live in it? Do you not know that all of us who have been baptized into Christ Jesus were baptized into his death? We were buried therefore with him by baptism into death, in order that, just as Christ was raised from the dead by the glory of the Father, we too might walk in newness of life. For if we have been united with him in a death like his, we shall certainly be united with him in a resurrection like his."

Why Infant Baptism?

When Jesus instituted Baptism as part of His Great Commission, He said it was for all nations, without age limit. Therefore, children are included.
Matthew 28:19 (ESV)
"Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit…"
In Acts 2, Peter says that the promise of baptism is for you and your children.
Acts 2:39 (ESV)
"For the promise is for you and for your children and for all who are far off, everyone whom the Lord our God calls to himself."
There are records of whole households being baptized in Acts, suggesting that children were included.
Acts 16:30-33 (ESV)
"Then he brought them out and said, 'Sirs, what must I do to be saved?' And they said, 'Believe in the Lord Jesus, and you will be saved, you and your household.' And they spoke the word of the Lord to him and to all who were in his house. And he took them the same hour of the night and washed their wounds; and he was baptized at once, he and all his family."
